Yesterday, Thursday 15 June, marked one of the biggest nights for landscape design in Queensland, with the local chapter 2023 Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA) Awards.
We’re delighted to say that Heritage Lanes, 80 Ann Street won an Award of Excellence in the Civic Landscape Category. The jury commented that the design for the project was ‘an exceptional example of a dynamic and energetic civic landscape outcome’.
Designed to give back to the city, the rejuvenated laneways improve the Brisbane street network by opening up new pedestrian connections. Lush native planting, shallow pools and water misters evoke Wheat Creak, the swampy waterway that once traversed the area. The site's past as a fruit market is echoed in the bustle created by new gathering spaces, which support a calendar of curated activities that promote street life.
The category recognises projects that capture and contribute to the culture and amenity of the urban environment around them.
Congratulations to all our team, and our clients Mirvac and collaborator Woods Bagot.
