Kangaroo Point Bridge Opening

Date: Jan 16, 2025
Category: Completed Projects
On Sunday in Brisbane, the Kangaroo Point Bridge was officially opened by the Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner, Chair Civic Cabinet for Transport Councillor Ryan Murphy and The Honourable Catherine King, Federal Infrastructure Minister.

Connecting Kangaroo Point to the CBD, the bridge enhances access between Kangaroo Point, the eastern suburbs, and the city, making it easier than ever to commute and explore.

The final design features unique riverside dining venues, pocket parklets at the Scott Street connection, and stairs with riverside seating that seamlessly extend the CT White Park landscape. Drawing inspiration from the adjacent Botanic Gardens at the city landing and the riverside parks of the Kangaroo Point Cliffs, the design integrates wayfinding elements to enhance orientation and create a cohesive, inviting space for the city.

Notably, this is the first pedestrian bridge spanning the Brisbane River to incorporate planting on its structure, showcasing thoughtfully integrated landscapes at various outlooks along the journey.

The bridge is set to enhance Brisbane as a vibrant and liveable city. It provides residents and visitors with a new way to enjoy our river city, offering a lasting legacy as Brisbane prepares to host the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Congratulations to Brisbane City Council and the Connect Brisbane consortium, led by BESIX Watpac, along with Blight Rayner Architecture and WSP in Australia, on delivering such an outstanding project for the city.
