Lake Boort Scarred Tree Master Plan

It’s an honour to be working collaboratively with the Dja Dja Wurrung Clans Aboriginal Corporation to help realise the vision of their community for the Lake Boort site. We acknowledge and pay respect to the members of the Dja Dja Wurrung community who have generously contributed to the development of this masterplan, sharing their culture, knowledge and stories with us throughout the Masterplan engagement.

The Lake Boort region is regarded to be one of the most significant Aboriginal cultural sites in Australia. There are estimated to be well over 400 scarred trees in the Lake Boort vicinity, these trees tell the story of how the Dja Dja Wurrung peoples lived by Lake Boort for thousands of years. The trees retain the scars from bark cuttings taken for the making of canoes, shields, food or baby carriers and other cultural uses.

The Masterplan aims to build awareness and appreciation of Lake Boort as an unparalleled landscape destination, identifying how considered visitor access can create unique and immersive landscape experiences, whilst also providing greater protection of the site’s significant cultural heritage values.
