ASPECT Studios’ Darling Islands - One Darling Island received a High Commendation for the Bruce Mackenzie Landscape Award.
‘The Darling Islands’ is a new and vibrant urban plaza at the forecourt of Google’s headquarters in Sydney, transforming a once grey and placeless space.
Featuring sustainable, recycled, and innovative materials, the design provides a delightful series of circular spaces that offer a diversity of seating, lounging, and meeting areas. The design uses contextual materials of brick, sandstone, and steel to reflect the site’s industrial history as a shipyard and the wider harbour landscape.
The jury said, “This project has created a kind of magnet in the landscape to pull people toward it and therefore activate it. There is a real sense of craft to how the brick pavers have been cut, arranged and layered in radial form, allowing them to be used as a special highlight in the garden rather than as a ubiquitous surface”.
We also like to congratulate Studio Bright for receiving a High Commendation (Horbury Hunt Commercial Award) for 8 Loftus Street, Quay Quarter Precinct.
