The conversations that have already been started by ‘Reimagining Birrarung: Design Concepts for 2070’ at the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne have been exciting. The exhibition sees ASPECT Studios join eight leading landscape architecture practices to create a vision of what the future of the river might look like.

As noted in The Guardian earlier this week, the ideas presented in the exhibition are bold and far-reaching, but entirely achievable – with enough political and popular support.

ASPECT’s contribution uses animation and evocative imagery to illustrate a vivid future designed around a broadened river corridor, supported by expansive parklands made possible by the removal of the Eastern Freeway.

Presented by the NGV in association with the Birrarung Council and Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Elders, ‘Reimagining Birrarung: Design Concepts for 2070’ is on display from 23 August 2024 to 2 February 2025 at The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia, Fed Square.
