Rewilding Sydney's most Urban Neighbourhood

Our shortlisted design for the University of Technology Sydney’s first Indigenous Residential College design celebrates a connection to country as well as an enriched student experience. The site's transformation embodies a rewilding ethos that unfolds as a lush tapestry around the delicately positioned ground floor entrance. The landscape here embraces shade-tolerant plantings with the elegant stature of tree ferns, instilling a sense of tranquillity and a connection to the natural world.

The roof terrace provides an intricate network of verdant tracks and trails to guide students to outdoor study zones, complete with seating and power outlets. Within the foliage, smaller study pods offer privacy and tranquillity. Flexibility is central to the roof terrace design offering students a variety of options to gather and relax with one another. Native plantings on the terrace provide a seasonal and ever-evolving canvas of colour, texture, and fragrance with emphasis on flowering and bird-attracting shrubs creating a lush urban habitat.
