The Place Debate: a great city never sleeps

On Thursday 24 November our Director Sacha Coles joined the Place Debate - part of an inaugural event in the great new space EDDY in Central Station, Sydney.
The event, run by Transport for NSW, put forward the proposition that ‘the great city never sleeps’. Proceedings were opened by NSW Minister for Infrastructure, Cities, and Active Transport Rob Stokes.
Sacha was joined Qianyi Lim, Michaella Solar-March, Jess Miller, and Samuel Davison, with compare Barrie Barton of Right Angel Studios, to argue for and against the idea of a 24 hour city.
Those in favour of a 24/7 city stressed the importance of night time activation as a stage for contemporary culture to flourish. That the night is when the city is truly alive. Sacha spoke against this idea and reflected on the "unsustainable path of eternal stimulation" which a 24/7 city creates, instead investing our intelligence in defining the identity for this city as a place of deep culture, natural beauty, and equity over hedonism.
