Melbourne Connect
Melbourne Connect is a purpose-built innovation precinct produced in partnership by the University of Melbourne and its private partners. It takes its name from its purpose: to “connect” researchers and students with government, industry, start-ups, artists and the nearby science museum.
ASPECT Studios designed the public realm and green rooftops across the project, as well as participating in the urban design process.
The public realm celebrates the site’s past as the Royal Women’s Hospital through the marking of the footprints of the two former buildings, as well as the use of bricks in acknowledgement of the former hospital’s memorable brick tower.

The Oculus has a series of planted arbours that inject greenery into a podium landscape with limited deep soil planting opportunities.
A suite of urban furniture was strategically deployed across the public domain to encourage people to occupy and use the public space, for outdoor learning, studying, collaboration, socialising and relaxing.
