The Maylands Town Centre Streetscape Revitalisation project received a High Commendation in the Australian Road Safety Award program, presented by the Main Roads WA Managing Director as a part of National Road Safety Week. The Awards recognise the efforts and achievements of organisations committed to improving road safety outcomes.
Maylands Town Centre is a vibrant local hub, with a rich history. Just 10 minutes from the Perth CBD, the area is connected by train, bus and cycle routes and is the focus of future high-density development and mixed-use growth. The local community and business owners are passionate about their local centre and sought solutions to a number of constraints including compromised pathways, disconnected pedestrian routes and a lack of tree canopy cover.
The revitalisation proposal includes improvements to the streetscape, including new green spaces, street tree planting and canopy coverage, street lighting, public seating, wider footpaths, and a calmer driving environment. Working closely with the community reference group, the plan was carefully developed with the needs of all users in mind and aims to become a catalyst project for the local area and beyond.
This commendation reflects the project's success in addressing the needs of The Maylands Town Centre through community engagement and stakeholder collaboration to develop a comprehensive masterplan that aims to provide healthier, more liveable streets for the community into the future. Thank you @Main Roads WA for nominating this project and congratulations to all our collaborators: @Taylor Burrell Barnett, @PJA and @Lucy Saunders FFPH.
