Once a tired shopping center, Surry Hills Village in Sydney is now a lively and intimate destination. ASPECT's Global Design Director Sacha Coles and Adam Haddow of SJB joined Elizabeth Farrelly on The Sydneyist program to discuss that transformation.
The mixed-use village hosts 122 apartments, wrapped around a central garden that connects to other retail spaces. The design fosters a sense of belonging—a town square where locals gather, connect, and "dwell".
The project balances nostalgia, excitement, and renewal by maintaining essential elements like scale, texture, and materiality.
