The Riawunna Garden at Rivers Edge, part of the University of Tasmania’s Inveresk campus, officially opened with a symbolic lighting of the firepit, using ashes collected from the firepit at Riawunna’s previous location at Newnham Campus.
Encompassing a gathering and performance space set within Indigenous planting, Tasmanian Aboriginal artists Lynne Spotswood and Genie Battese have embedded their artworks into significant elements within the garden, creating a welcoming space that connects closely with Country.
ASPECT Studios led the landscape design, working collaboratively with the Riawuuna community, artists Lynne and Genie, T3D Studios, Wardle, and the university, to ensure culturally responsive outcomes for a community-centered place.
We feel privileged to have been able to contribute to such an amazing result for the community and are excited for Riawunna’s future journey in the space.
