Given the Library is reorientated towards the creek bed, opportunities to access the creek channel is created by the placement of stepping stones, boulders and salvaged logs along the banks and invert of the channel. The creek will become a central natural play element within the larger and more formal memorial garden setting.
Extensive decks and seating terraces cascade from the edge of the library to meet new open lawns, providing an opportunity for events to be staged and maximises the capacity of the existing park to accommodate large gatherings.
At the completion of the project, the people of Mitcham will have a revitalised new open space and community heart that caters for all ages in a beautiful treed setting.
