Oaklands Crossing Grade Separation Project
The Oaklands Crossing Grade Separation project saw ASPECT Studios enhance the station precinct with safer pedestrian and bicycle connections, along with high-quality amenities that support the ambitions of the Australian and South Australian Governments and the City of Marion to increase public transport patronage. A quality public realm in the form of a station plaza surrounded by landscaped areas seamlessly integrates with the new lowered station, enhanced by extensive planting, public art, urban furniture and rearranged pathway connections.
With the fundamental objective of reducing chronic road congestion, Oaklands Crossing showcases the successful inclusion of urban greening, connectivity and sustainability within the design of a major infrastructure project.

The Marino Rocks Greenway cycle route now passes uninterrupted through a previously congested level-crossing intersection. Pedestrian and bike use in and around the station and plazas is encouraged and protected by simple and legible movement planning. The result is a porous and highly-connected station with access paths dispersing in all directions, complemented by facilities that have been arranged to minimise walking distances. Pedestrian safety in the underpass is improved through the sensitive integration of a signature public art piece that was developed in close collaboration with the landscape team.
Over 200 trees have been planted across a site that is heavily laden with below- and above-ground services and clearance restrictions to roads and rail infrastructure. At the same time, the retention of existing trees provides both a continuation of habitat value and a historical anchor that links the site to its to pre-European past.
