Parc 66, Jinan

The Parc 66 Urban Regeneration project in Jinan exemplifies a balanced approach to sustainable urban development and urban destination creation, where a once-underutilised area has been carefully transformed into a vibrant, welcoming environment. ASPECT’s approach emphasises human-scale design and environmental responsibility, creating a renewed sense of place within the city’s urban fabric. The design was specifically crafted to allow all tenants to remain fully operational during its implementation, mitigating loss in revenue.

People and Place

The design prioritises human interaction, while reflecting the natural beauty and geological heritage of Jinan. Just as water has shaped Jinan’s remarkable rock formations, the concept of fluid connectivity is reflected in the layout of Parc 66. Larger open areas transition smoothly into smaller, more intimate spaces, offering a variety of experiences that cater to different rhythms of urban life. The design subtly mimics the organic forms found in nature, creating a cohesive and meaningful environment where each space feels connected to the next, just as streams carve paths that converge into rivers.

Reuse and Retain

Sustainability was a guiding principle throughout the regeneration process. By retaining and reusing existing structural components and hardscape materials, the project looked to minimised waste and reduced its environmental impact. Plant species, carefully selected to be resilient in a local environment defined by bitterly cold winters and hot summers, enhances the site’s ecological value and create green spaces that contribute to the well-being of the local community. The integration of additional trees and shrubs not only improves air quality but also provides a more pleasant microclimate.
Active Urban Hub

Parc 66 is designed to act as the connective hub between Jinan’s different urban districts, and to remain active and engaging throughout the day and night. Defined by clusters of social pockets set within and around planted islands to give permeant spatial structure and that responds to the retail, restaurants, and cafes while central space is flexible, accommodating a wide range of activities, exhibitions, and cultural events to everyday social interactions. This adaptability ensures that the space will evolve and adapt with time and continue serve the community’s needs over time.

New from Old

Parc 66 in Jinan stands as a clear example of how thoughtful design and sustainability can breathe new life into an urban area. The project has transformed a once-overlooked space into a vibrant part of the city, offering a variety of experiences for people throughout the day. By connecting with the natural processes that shape our environment, and focusing on the practical needs of the community, Parc 66 sets a new standard for urban regeneration—Defining a new reenergized future from the old and crafting places that are environmentally responsible, meaningful, and beneficial for today's use and future uses.
