Allianz Stadium has been recognised for the way its urban design reconnects a fractured part of Sydney, having received the Lloyd Rees Award for Urban Design at the Australian Institute of Architects 2024 NSW Architecture Awards.

Cox Architecture and ASPECT Studios were praised for their “insightful approach” by the jury, which said the new stadium precinct “sets a benchmark for integrating large-scale sporting facilities into the urban fabric, promoting daily experiences and public benefit beyond game day and outside the pay wall.”

Ensuring the new stadium precinct contributed to the rich network of surrounding public spaces was key to our collaborative urban design approach. While the new public spaces are destinations in their own right, they also reconnect Paddington with Moore Park and the neighbourhoods of Surry Hills and Redfern.

The project now proceeds to the National Architecture Awards in November.
