Celebrating excellence in landscape design across the state, the 2024 Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA) SA Landscape Architecture Awards took place last Friday. Ovingham Level Crossing Removal received the Landscape Architecture Award for Infrastructure as well as a Commendation in the Healthy Parks Healthy People category.

The project fosters social connections within the local community and enhances pedestrian and cyclist connectivity. The area has been re-vegetated with indigenous species, and water-sensitive urban design measures support extensive green infrastructure initiatives.

The jury said, "The Ovingham Level Crossing Removal Project enhances the role of landscape architects and contemporary infrastructure within difficult inner-city sites in Adelaide. Focused on grade separating vehicle and rail movements, the project creates new quality open space and public domain spaces as well as new tree planting, offsetting tree losses as a result of the project."

Thank you to AILA SA and congratulations to our team and collaborators PTPA Ovingham Alliance Partners – McConnell Dowell, Arup, and Mott MacDonald, Cox Architecture, Gould Thorpe Planning Pty Ltd (GTP) as well as Aboriginal Urban Design. The project now proceeds to the National Landscape Architecture Awards to be held later this year.
