Reimagining Birrarung

The Birrarung (Yarra) River is Melbourne’s defining waterway. ASPECT Studios is one of eight leading landscape architecture practices at the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) to create a vision of what the future of river might look like, a vision for change, repair and renewed health for our river.

ASPECT’s exhibit includes video animations and evocative imagery to illustrate a vivid future designed around a broadened river corridor, supported by expansive parklands made possible by the removal of the South-Eastern Freeway. The proposal imagines a regenerated river landscape at the heart of the city where big trees and swimmable waterways are at the core of the community.

Presented by the NGV in association with the Birrarung Council and Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Elders, ‘Reimagining Birrarung: Design Concepts for 2070’ will be on display from Friday, 23 August 2024 to Sunday, 2 February 2025 at the Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia, Fed Square.
