The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) Annual Conference is a fantastic opportunity to share knowledge about how we can improve life in our cities. This year's edition, held in London, was organised around the theme of “New or Renew: Addressing the Density Dilemma”, which looked at the pressures within the industry around re-use and adaptation.

In his presentation, Valter Vieira, ASPECT Studios Co-CEO, argued that urban infrastructure holds untapped potential. There is no reason why major roads, power lines and train lines should not double as reparative injections of biodiversity and environmental regeneration.

Thanks go to Chair Paul Rodgers of 10 Design, and fellow panelists Carl Knutson of Perkins&Will, Jonathan Alexander of Nordic Office of Architecture Norway of Architecture, and Haakon Brouwer of Dam & Partners Architecten for joining Valter in such an engaging session.

It is encouraging to see CTBUH using its annual conference to facilitate a conversation about such a crucial subject.
