Civic Square

Civic Square draws together the disparate elements of public life through a series of carefully calibrated visual representations of Launceston’s history and culture. The design reinforces the city’s identity through interpretive elements and theming, and a whimsical yet respectful revealing of local stories.

Strong connections at both main entrances tie the square to the street network, positioning the space as an everyday destination and giving it a potent visual presence. Designed with flexibility in mind, the square is capable of catering for events of all sizes, with seating elements and unprogrammed spaces that encourage passing pedestrians to stay and engage with it.
