Dandenong Park
Dandenong Park is a testament to the value of long-term collaboration. ASPECT Studios has been working closely with the City of Greater Dandenong for over a decade on the revitalisation of the park, a historic green space in the centre of the city. Initially, a master plan was developed in consultation with stakeholders, the community and the council, which focused on the historical value of the parklands and the removal of multiple buildings that were unused and dilapidated.
Then, in the first stage, ASPECT directed the creation of a new regional play space and picnic area, with a focus on nature-based play and the interpretation of the site’s former history.

The second stage involved the creation of a new cycling path, lighting system and careful arboricultural works across the site.
The third stage included the creation of a new multipurpose recreation and picnic zone embedded amongst the park’s mature trees. The sound shell was retained and sensitively reworked to act as a community stage.
The latest stage included the heritage interpretation of many of the former buildings and community uses and an overall signage system for the site. Salvaged artifacts from the bowls club and kindergarten were used to create interpretive moments that highlight and honour the park’s past.
Over time, Dandenong Park has re-emerged as significant cultural park for the community thanks to the long-term collaboration between the council and its designers.
